چکیده

A new algorithm for the estimation of the atrial activity (AA) signal from the surface electrocardiogram during atrial fibrillation (AF) episodes is proposed. This algorithm has been based on blind source separation methods, and has been designed including statistical and temporal source information. With this new methodology, the estimation of the AA source is enhanced, comparing to the estimation obtained with other independent component analysis (ICA) algorithms. The validity of the proposed method is demonstrated with the analysis of 10 AF recordings. A performance parameter based on the spectral concentration of the AA around its main frequency was employed. The spatiotemporal analysis provided AA signals with an spectral concentration that was in average 13% above those obtained with ICA methods.

Comparison of Atrial Rhythm Extraction Techniques for the Estimation of the Main Atrial Frequency from the 12-lead Electrocardiogram in Atrial Fibrillation

One of the greatest challenges in analysis of the atrial rhythm from the ECG is to distinguish the atrial component from the large ventricular components. Our aim was to compare three techniques of atrial rhythm extraction from three groups working on this problem. 12-lead ECG data from 7 patients in atrial fibrillation were analysed. For extraction of the atrial rhythm, spatiotemporal QRST can...

Atrial Fibrillation is a supra ventricular tachyarrhythmia, which is characterized by the deterioration of atrial mechanical function and aberrant. It has become a social and economic problem because a large percentage of the world population suffering from this disease. The early diagnosis of this fatal cardiac Arrhythmia can be prevented and managed it. In this study, we used non-invasive met...

Bioelectric Model of Atrial Fibrillation: Applicability of Blind Source Separation Techniques for Atrial Activity Estimation in Atrial Fibrillation Episodes

In this contribution, we present the theoretical justification that give support to the suitability of Blind Signal Separation (BSS) techniques for the estimation of the atrial activity (AA) present in ECGs of persistent atrial fibrillation (AF). The application of BSS methods to this problem needs the fulfillment of several conditions regarding AA, ventricular activity (VA) and the fashion in ...

An Integral Atrial Wave Identification based on Spatiotemporal Source Separation: Clinical Validation

This contribution presents a new methodology for the estimation of the atrial activity (AA) in supraventricular arrhythmias. The method is an adaptation of source separation techniques to this specific problem, including spatial and temporal information. An extensive clinical study over 45 patients demonstrates the suitability of the method. A spectral analysis of the estimated AA shows that th...

Atrial Fibrillation Analysis Based on Blind Source Separation in 12-lead ECG

Atrial Fibrillation is the most common sustained arrhythmia encountered by clinicians. Because of the invisible waveform of atrial fibrillation in atrial activation for human, it is necessary to develop an automatic diagnosis system. 12-Lead ECG now is available in hospital and is appropriate for using Independent Component Analysis to estimate the AA period. In this research, we also adopt a s...
